It's become an undisputable fact that physical copies are getting less frequent these days, and it's not always a guarantee that a big triple-A game will have one at launch. Baldur's Gate 3 didn't have one, Alan Wake 2 didn't have one, and Microsoft has seemingly just decided to stop making physical copies of its first-party games, at least on Xbox.

Well, now we have one more big title that's choosing to go the all-digital route, and that's Dying Light: The Beast. With its September 19 release date fast approaching, developer Techland has been releasing more videos and trailers to try and get fans pumped up. In its latest story trailer, which was uploaded to YouTube earlier today, we saw a little bit more of Kyle Crane and his motivations in the game.

Dying Light: The Beast Won't Be Getting A Physical Release

As spotted by Reddit user Jokr_009, one fan in the comments of this video called on Techland to release a physical version of the game. In response, the studio explained that it's currently "focused on applying the finishing touches" to the game, and drops the bombshell that it has "no plans to release a physical edition".

Understandably, the news wasn't received particularly well, with people in Joker_009's Reddit thread claiming they're now going to wait for deep discounts before buying. Honestly, I'm right there with them, especially since Dying Light: The Beast is a full-priced game and will set you back $60 at launch.

If I'm playing devil's advocate, this is most likely due to the fact that Dying Light: The Beast originally started out as DLC, and then turned into a full-fledged game after Techland managed to expand upon it. On the other hand, it's hard to justify a digital-only game launching for $60 if Techland no longer has to deal with manufacturing costs.

It's possible that Techland may crack and release a physical edition down the line, like both Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 have done, but I wouldn't expect it particularly soon. If you're a physical collector, this might be a title you'll have to skip, though it's not like September is bereft of cool-looking games to play. May I turn your attention to Hollow Knight: Silksong, for example?
